Biographical Sketch:
Kris de Smet graduated as Veterinarian Doctor in 1987. From 1988 to 1992 he was researcher at the University of Ghent (Belgium) in the Faculty of Veterinary Science.. From 1992 until 2001 he was employed at the private sector. He was mainly involved in veterinary services and quality control of a poultry integration. Since 2001, he works as official at the European Commission, Health and Food Safety Directorate-General. He was involved in the management of EU legislation on BSE and zoonoses (mainly Salmonella). Since the beginning of 2009, he is the coordinator of the team dealing with EU legislation on food hygiene and zoonoses control.
