Biographical Sketch: Nikolaos Bessas has several years of working experience in food safety. He is working since 2011 for the wholesaler METRO Cash & Carry International as the Head of Global Supply Chain Quality Assurance. The area of his responsibility includes the quality assurance of the supply chain for the 26 countries where the company is operating. Previous working experience includes managerial roles in the European food industry, as well as coordinating food safety authorities. He has studied food science at the Agricultural University of Athens, he holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a MSc in Food studies from Wageningen University (The Netherlands). He is an active member of IFS, BRC and Global Food Safety Initiative technical working groups, responsible for the update and harmonisation of international food safety standards. He is a certified Lead Auditor ISO 22000:2005 and Lean Six sigma.
