Graduated from the Dept of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Agricultural University of Athens (2002), holder of a Masters Degree (MSc) in "Food Science and Technology" (2003) and of a PhD Degree in Agricultural Sciences, scientific field of Food Microbiology, from the same University (2008). During my doctoral thesis (2004-08), I worked for 20 months (as a recipient of a European Union Marie Curie fellowship) at the Unit of Bacterial Biochemistry of the French National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA, Research Centre of Jouy-en-Josas, Paris). I conducted postdoctoral research at the Lab of Microbiology and Biotechnology of Foods (research team of Prof. G.-J. Nychas) at the Agricultural University of Athens, through a 12-month scholarship provided by the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY), whose main research interest was to study microbial interactions encountered in biofilms of food related bacteria and their influence on the disinfection resistance of these communities. I was appointed Lecturer of Food Microbiology in the Dept Food Science and Nutrition, University of the Aegean in 2010 and in 2014 I was promoted to the rank of Asst. Professor. So far, I have participated as a paid research assistant in 8 European research projects on topics of food microbiology and food safety. I have published 17 articles in international journals (which have received 308 total citations, h index 10, Scopus, 05.11.2015), 3 chapters in collective English volumes and I have announced my research project 42 times in international conferences (of which: 9 oral presentations, 33 posters) and 14 times in Greek conferences (of which: 8 oral presentations, 6 posters). I am reviewer in 35 international journals related to applied (food) microbiology and food science, member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), member of the Scientific Council of the Greek Technology Platform "Food For Life", and integrated into the Unified Register of Trainers of Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), as a personal trainer of food industry staff on topics of food hygiene and safety.
