Many investigations of foodborne disease outbreaks/food contamination events do not identify the contributing factors and environmental antecedents (root causes) for the outbreak. This symposium will describe actions being taken by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease control and Prevention, local environmental health staff and industry to ensure that environmental assessments are conducted in these situations and how the findings will be used.
